Uploading Traces
A recording reaches Tracepipe in one of two ways, and both end in the same place: a session in My Sessions that gets processed and turned into a Skill.
- Uploaded from the extension. If you clicked Upload to Tracepipe after recording, the session is already in Tracepipe and processing has started. Skip ahead to Track processing below.
- Saved to your computer. If you saved the recording as a
.jsonlfile instead, upload it here.
1. Go to My Sessions
From the dashboard, open My Sessions in the navigation.
2. Select your trace file(s)
Drag and drop one or more .jsonl files onto the sessions page, or click to choose files from your computer. Only .jsonl files are accepted, which is the format the Chrome extension saves.
At this point nothing has been uploaded yet. You're only selecting files and previewing an estimated processing cost, so you can back out with no effect.
- Selecting one file. Confirm the file to see its estimate.
- Selecting multiple files at once. Confirm the list to see an estimate for each.
3. Start processing
Tracepipe shows the estimated processing cost for the file(s) you selected. Click Process to continue.
This is the point of no return. Clicking Process is what actually uploads your trace file(s) and starts processing, and it draws from your plan's tokens. Make sure you're ready before clicking it, as there's no undo afterward.
Uploading from the extension works the same way. The estimate you confirm there is this same check, so a recording is priced and charged once whichever route it takes.
Track processing
Processing classifies the raw input events captured by the extension into structured tasks. This is identical for sessions uploaded from the extension and for files uploaded here.
Processing usually takes 5 to 10 minutes, and generating a Skill from the session afterwards takes about as long again. You can safely close this window, as processing continues in the background. Track progress any time from My Sessions, where each session shows a status:
Failed sessions don't count against your token quota.
Review the detected tasks
Once a session is marked Completed, open it to see the tasks Tracepipe detected inside the recording. These tasks are what Creating Skills draws from.
Next Steps
With one or more completed sessions, you're ready to generate a Skill.
