Plans and Tokens

Tracepipe measures the work it does for you in tokens. Every plan includes a monthly token allowance, and some actions spend from it. This page explains which actions spend tokens, how to see the cost before you commit, and what happens when the allowance runs out.

Your allowance

  • Each plan has a monthly allowance. The pricing section lists the current plans and how many tokens each one includes. Enterprise plans are sized to your workload.
  • The allowance resets every month. Your plan renews automatically each month, and your token allowance resets at the start of each billing cycle.
  • You can change plan at any time. Move up or down a plan from your profile. Some changes start at the next billing period, and the plan picker tells you when.
  • You can see what you have used. Your profile shows your plan, the tokens you have used this month and your allowance.

See the cost first

Every action that spends tokens shows an estimate before it starts, and nothing is spent until you confirm. The one exception is voice narration. The extension's estimate does not include it, so a recording with narration spends more than the estimate it shows.

When you confirm, Tracepipe holds the estimate against your allowance while the work runs. When the work finishes, Tracepipe charges what it actually used, which can be more or less than the estimate. If the work fails, the hold is returned and nothing is charged.

When the allowance runs out

If your remaining allowance can't cover an action, Tracepipe does not start it. You can wait for the allowance to reset at the start of the next billing cycle, or move to a larger plan.

An upload from the extension that can't go ahead is saved to your Downloads folder instead, so nothing is lost. You can upload the saved file from the website later.

Best practices

  • Keep recordings focused. A recording of one task costs fewer tokens to process than a long recording that covers several.
  • Check the estimate every time. It is free, and for a recording without voice narration it is close to what you will spend.
  • Leave out the Quality rubric when you only need the free checks. A scan for structure, personal data, wording and script problems costs nothing without it, while you have allowance left.
  • Watch the dashboard near the end of the month. It warns you when you are on track to go over your allowance before the cycle resets.
